Eugenics

The advancement of technology has embarked on every aspect of human life, including human reproduction. The involvement of genetic engineering might have several benefits, however, I believe this action is highly immortal and should not be allowed in any places worldwide.

From a positive outlook, eliminating disadvantaged traits and choosing advantaged traits solely can create several benefits. History of human evolution has proven that the advanced civilization of humans nowadays is the result of selecting the “good” genetic traits. From primitive ape species, humans have evolved and refined their genetic pool, leading to our current sophisticated physical form and intellect. Hence, the continuity of this process by selecting superior genetic traits can benefit our future generations. Additionally, eugenics could lead to populations with higher average intelligence and abilities by encouraging the reproduction of individuals deemed intellectually or physically superior.

Despite such convincing benefits, I agree with those who claim that this method is unethical and should not be implied, especially for children. The undeniable result of this action is the increase in social discrimination that has heavily impacted on a global scale, by selecting or reproducing only superior individuals, people who are genetically undesirable can become the victim of discrimination or abusive acts from society. More importantly, the concept of eugenics has often been associated with significant ethical concerns, including issues related to human rights, individual freedoms, and social justice. Historically,  during the Nazi regime in Germany, eugenics was used to justify the genocide of millions of people deemed genetically undesirable, led to millions of death of innocent people.

In conclusion, despite the advantages that can be created from selecting superior genes, I believe this method is unethical since it can lead to social discrimination, social justice and is associated with human rights.
