the ending of "Gangs of New York" broke my heart
It was a lonely night when I decided to watch Gangs of New York
I was always a big fan of sir Daniel Day-Lewis, Leo and Martin Scorsese
Due to connection factors, I was unable to watch this movies several times. It's like God knew I would have to try my best to experience this masterpiece
I finished the first half of the movie on one night, and the second half on the night after. It is not because I was bored or anything, mainly because I was exhausted on first day.
Of course the performances of Daniel and Leo were phenomenal as usual, but one scene that craft into my heart was the ending scene where they filmed the graves of Bill the Butcher and Priest Vallon and the landscape of New York following times.
The scene got me a major existential crisis since harsh feeling of time and how large the world is hawked me. It made me wonder how many graves, human and stories had been told before but eventually being forgotten and no one remembered who they were as humans.
Neither good nor bad, they were humans and what they did was to make a small contribution to this world.
I don't think morality is the main thing Mr. Scorsese want people to focus on. I personally do not know exactly to articulate all these feelings, however, I do know that by watching this scene only,
I know I must pursue art, I must create, I must become a part of this contribution even if what I made is only known by tiny number of people.
Art saves me one more time.
